By Carlos Espana, staff writer

Technology is growing every day and increasing its influence in society, which is why Chat GPT is the controversial language modeL developed by Open AI that is revolutionizing the way students learn and grow.       Chat GPT is an AI-powered chatbot that is designed to understand natural language input and generate human-like responses.      It can answer a wide range of questions on a variety of topics, making it an ideal tool for students who need extra help or guidance.      Chat GPT is available 24/7, making it an ideal resource for students who need help outside of school hours.      This can be especially beneficial for students who are struggling with homework or need additional support with a particular subject.      In addition, this AI can be used to complement the work in the classroom, teachers can use it to provide students with additional resources that help them when they have questions in class, another use that can be given is to provide feedback to students in their homework.    In conclusion, Chat GPT is a technology that undoubtedly has the potential to transform the way students learn and grow thanks to its ability to provide personalized learning experiences, its 24/7 availability, its support for critical thinking and problem solving.       In my opinion, Chat GPT will quickly become the main reference resource for educators and students.

Adidas finally gets women’s sports right

By Nathan Espindula, staff writer

With the 2023 edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup right around the corner Adidas has released the uniforms which will be worn by the countries who they sponsor at the tournament.      Adidas took innovative risks with the new attire and the result was brilliant.      The new approach taken by the German brand marks a departure from the traditionally gendered uniforms that had been used in previous tournaments and has a great significance for the sport and the representation of female athletes.      The new uniforms possess a design that was specially made to better fit the female body.      This eliminates some of the issues that female players had with traditional uniforms, which were often designed with male athletes in mind.     The uniforms contain a wide array of technical improvements made with advanced materials.      The uniforms are designed to wick away sweat and moisture. With breathable fabrics that help to regulate body temperature Adidas ensures that all athletes at the tournament will be playing with state-of-the-art uniforms and be able to perform at the top level at this year's WWC.       Adidas brouGht their A game when it came to the technological advancements, but they also did not disappoint in the visual aspect of the new kits.      The uniforms are available in a wide range of colors and embody phenomenal designs. Arguably for the first time in history the female teams will possess a uniform that is aesthetically superior to their male counterparts. The bold colors and designs help to make a statement on the field and show that in its own way women’s sports not only can compete with the men’s but it can be better.      The challenge of getting people to care about women’s sports has been tackled from many different angles and this time Adidas finally got it right.      Instead of trying to copy the men’s teams and sell it as a similar product Adidas decided to go a different route and have decided to instead showcase the individuality and beauty of the women’s game.

Catalytic Converter Theft in California

Victor Bordin, staff writer

Catalytic converters are being stolen off vehicles across California. There were about 52,206 stolen catalytic converters in 2021, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

Lawmakers are trying to do their part to stop this.

They are mainly stolen because of the chemicals they have. Rhodium is $20,000 per ounce, palladium is $2,938 per ounce, and platinum is $1,128 per ounce.  Thieves make an easy profit by using an electric or battery-powered saw to steal catalytic converters.

California lawmakers had three out of 11 bills passed to stop this crime. They include: the California Highway Patrol’s Regional Property Crimes Task Force prioritizing this problem, limiting legal sales of catalytic converters, and the requirement of documenting the purchase.

According to an article in CalMatters, a Toyota spokesperson stated, “Catalytic converter theft is an industry-wide challenge…the most effective approach requires close collaboration between the broader automotive industry and local and state authorities to devise legislative solutions aimed at eliminating the market for these stolen parts.”

The Bureau of Automotive Repair recommends that you park in a well-lit street or in a garage. You can also purchase a catalytic converter protection shield. Engraving them with your vehicle identification number (VIN) is another option.

Without some kind of anti-theft mechanism, people can be unlucky. Brendon Lariviere, a Chico resident, recently had his catalytic converter stolen off his 2006 Honda Accord. He said, “Once I started the car I heard it and smelled it at the same time, it smelled like fuel burning too rich, and sounded like a pissed off go-kart.”

Replacements are not cheap either. Lariviere reported that he had to pay $1,500 for a new catalytic converter. If you are concerned about your catalytic converter being stolen, use an anti-theft mechanism that best suits your needs.
